BABY POUCH WEARING INSTRUCTIONS

HOW TO PUT ON YOUR POUCH: Fold your sling in half lengthwise, edge to edge, to form a circular “hammock”. If you want to have your sling hang from your right shoulder, hold the sling to the left of you, folded side on the right , open edges on the left, then put your left arm and head through the opening. The fabric cups your right shoulder and the sling will form a pocket or “pouch” for your baby. The curved seat of the sling (middle of the pocket) should rest between your hipbone and navel.

CRADLE CARRY: Put on the sling. Gently hold your baby up against the shoulder above the sling’s pocket (make sure your newborn’s neck is being supported in your hold). Open the pocket of your sling and lower your baby inside, bottom and feet first, so your baby is resting on his back with his head towards whatever shoulder you are wearing your sling on. Pull the fabric around him so that the pocket encloses his body. The baby’s head must be higher than the baby's bottom*. If the baby seems lost in the sling, place a folded receiving blanket under him. The baby’s bottom should be cupped in the curve of the sling, with the pouch seam running perpendicular to her spine. If the sling feels too loose, try giving the shoulder fabric a twist by spreading the sling fabric down over your shoulder, exposing the interior cloth. This carry is perfect for nursing!

*Support your newborn’s neck and head as you position them and watch closely when they are in the sling to make sure their spine is properly supported and their head does not curl too far forward against their chest (this can make breathing difficult and can put your infant at risk for positional asphyxia). Keep baby's face clear of cloth as it may obstruct breathing.

HIP CARRY (for older babies and toddlers): Put on your sling as you would with the cradle carry. Make sure the fabric is cupping your shoulder. Thread your baby’s legs through the sling and pull the pocket down, over his bottom, continuing up behind his knees (the baby's knees must be higher than the baby's bottom). Firmly hold the baby with one arm and gently scoot the baby and the sling over to your hip. The baby's bottom must be firmly seated in the sling and there should be enough fabric on the baby's back to hold the child in place if he or she tips backwards a bit. The pouch seam should line up with your baby's spine. The sling should not feel at all loose.

*You are responsible for your child’s safety. Please always use caution while babywearing.
